Supporting a Client With a Time-Sensitive Data Subject Access Request

The challenge
A client had received a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) and had a limited amount of time to respond.
The request involved searching through a significant volume of digital files to identify relevant information. The documents also needed to be carefully reviewed so that data could be redacted in line with the guidance provided by the client’s DSAR adviser.
Completing the work internally would have required a substantial number of staff hours, placing extra pressure on employees who still had their usual responsibilities to manage.
How we helped
The team worked closely with the client, their DSAR adviser and their IT team.
Together, we established a clear process for accessing and reviewing the files. We then worked methodically through the information, carried out the required redactions following the adviser’s guidance and returned the results to the client in an organised format.
We also prepared a report for the client to issue as part of their response to the data subject.
The outcome
Outsourcing the project gave the client dedicated support without taking key employees away from their day-to-day work.
The project had a clearly defined scope, start point and end point. GSVA provided the additional capacity needed to manage a large and time-sensitive piece of work while the client retained oversight and continued working with their specialist adviser.
